Overview
Chief Mate & Master-HND Nautical Science (Examination Route)
- Holds COC OOW Unlimited II/1 Certificate with 12 months of experience.
- Hold a valid personal medical fitness certificate recognized by the MCA.
- Candidates who completed the NAEST(O) course before 1st January 2005 must have completed an MCA-approved IMO Model 1.27 ECDIS course before undertaking the NAEST(M) course.
To Obtain Master COC (Unlimited)
Once a Chief Mate CoC has been achieved, candidates must complete 36 months of watch-keeping service while holding an OOW unlimited II/1 Certificate of Competency before undertaking the examination for Master certification. Then the candidate needs to appear for the Oral examination by MCA only.
Docs Required
List of documents for booking course:
- Passport Copy (Front and Address).
- Discharge Book (CDC) with 12 months of sea service after obtaining COC (OOW).
- Certificate of Competency (COC-OOW).
- If more than 36 months of sea time is available after COC-OOW, then can appear for both COC Chief mate and Master’s Orals.

The Total fees including Course fees for Advanced Diploma Nautical Science, Medical Care aboard ship, NAEST(M), Additional Cost: Helm (M) ,1 time SQA Examination fees; Approx GBP 8820.
(HELM & Medical care on board the ship may be provided in India from an MCA-approved center).

Before Applying for NOE for Chief Mate(UK), the following documents are to be in hand:
- Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF).
- Medical First Aid (MFA).
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Craft (PSC&RB).
- Masters Medicare.
- HELM (M).
Online Course
This 9 months course can be done with (3 months online/offline in India)+ 6 months in UK.
Online/Offline Course for the first 3 month.
Term-1:
- Law and Management for Mates and Masters.
- Cargo and port Operations.
- Bridge and Engineering systems.
- Command Passage Planning.
Course Details
Course for the next 6 months in UK.
Term-2 (Assessment for the below)
- Law and Management for mates and masters.
- Bridge and Engineering systems.
- Cargo and Port Operations.
You need to study and assessed on:
- Command Passage Planning.
- Underpinning knowledge of Chief mate and Master SQA Navigation exam.
- Advanced ship stability and construction.
- Under-pining knowledge of Chief mate and masters SQA Stability and structures exam.
Term-3:
- Command Passage Planning.
- Bridge and engineering system.
- Management level HELM.
- Management Level NAEST.
Course Schedule
The Batches for Chief mates are as follows:
1. September to June.

Eligibility
- 12 months sea time on FG vessels more than 80GRT and 24m LOA whilst holding an OOW (unlimited) Certificate of Competency.

- Watch-keeping certificates to support all watch-keeping sea service.
